INDUSTRY 2 Coal file

PREMIUM --

Library filer dated 19/1/1993 as Dave Jasiok (right) and David Geldarde joined their shift in a celebratory pint at Wistow Colliery in North Yorkshire as colleagues celebrated their achievement as Europe's top coal productivity pit. Miner Dave Jasiok joins his shift in a celebratory pint. The colliery is part of Britain's biggest mining complex at Selby whose closure is expected to be announced imminently. Up to 2,000 staff work at three separate pits in the north Yorkshire complex - Riccall, Stillingfleet and Wistow. But the closure is likely to have a devastating knock-on effect which could lead to a further 3,000 job losses in related industries. See PA story INDUSTRY Coal. PA Photo: John Giles.
