Disney Plus warns viewers of scenes with 'outdated cultural depictions'

Disney Plus is warning subscribers that some of Walt Disney's most beloved classics might contain "outdated cultural depictions." Disney Plus launched Tuesday, opening
their vault of legendary films, not all of which hold up today. The company created a disclaimer that reads, “This program is presented as originally created. It may contain
outdated cultural depictions.” Films such as "Dumbo," "Peter Pan," "The Jungle Book" and a number of Mickey Mouse shorts contain the message. The animated "Dumbo" film is one example for the necessity of the warning, with culturally-insensitive characters like the bird named Jim Crow. Though not all of the content contains offensive material, Disney was sure to slap the warning on several titles as a precaution. But Disney's decision to forgo warnings on its more contemporary films may raise a few eyebrows. For instance, 1992's "Aladdin" carries a tobacco warning, but doesn't note any issues with the "cultural depictions." "Pocahontas," a 1995 film deemed historically inaccurate and rife with troubling Indigenous stereotypes, also doesn't carry any warnings.
