APRIL 7th: On this day in 1960, President Charles de Gaulle of France was in London on a three day state visit. Madame de Gaulle can be seen on the right of the picture, talking to the Duke of Edinburgh . With the Queen at his side, President Charles de Gaulle of France acknowledges the cheers of the audience at the gala performance of ballet given for him and Madame de Gaulle - seen talking to the Duke of Edinburgh (right), in the carnation decorated Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. Also in the Royal Box are Princess Margaret (far left) and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Just left of the Duke of Edinburgh is Mr Anthony Armstrong-Jones, Princess Margaret's fiance. Extreme right is the Duchess of Kent.
