Occidental Petrolaum's chairman, Dr Armand Hammer, faces the grim reality of the North Sea oil platform disaster at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary when he met rig catastrophe survivor Erland Grieve. Dr Hammer, whose Company operated the doomed platform Piper Alpha, flew into Aberdeen. He said he had given 1 million to the disaster appeal.
