Trudeau slams Facebook for blocking wildfire news

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is accusing Facebook's parent company Meta of putting corporate profits ahead of Canadians' safety, as the platform’s news ban includes postings about wildfire evacuations. Facebook and Instagram are blocking Canadian news in protest over legislation that aims to make social-media firms pay part of their ad revenue to news outlets, to an extent that Meta insists isn’t affordable. (Aug. 21, 2023)
