Canada marks second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Ceremonies and events were staged across the country to honour residential school survivors on Sept.30, also known as Orange Shirt Day. Dignitaries including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended one held near Parliament Hill, where hundreds gathered wearing orange. A crowd estimated as high as 10,000 people gathered at Victoria's Royal Athletic Park to mark Canada's National Truth and Reconciliation Day. Songhees Nation Chief Ron Sam says his peoples first powwow in two decades was held to honour residential school survivors.
