Several stations of North Korea’s metro in the capital Pyongyang have had a makeover, with a more modern and less Soviet look. The super deep subway system was built starting in the 1960s, going into operation in the 1970s. It has long been a visitor attraction because of its ornate decorations, with mosaics and chandeliers.
