Unions vow to fight public service cuts unveiled in federal budget
Canada's federal public service unions have vowed to fight planned job cuts, arguing they will mean longer wait times for services and weaker health and safety protections for Canadians. The federal budget says the government intends to have 10 per cent fewer federal employees by 2029, a loss of about 40,000 jobs from the public service peak of 368,000 two years ago. (Nov. 5, 2025)
