Mother's Day is just around the corner. Here are ten facts you should know about Mother's Day: 1. The date changes due to it being held annually on May's second Sunday. This year Mother's Day is being celebrated on May 12. 2. Ancient Greece was one of the earliest civilizations to honour mothers. 3. According to Reuters, Mother's Day sees the highest volume of phone calls than any other day of the year. 4. The idea was started in 1868 by American activist Ann Jarvis, who wanted to bring people together
after the Civil War. 5. According to the CBC, Jarvis' daughter, Anna, organized the first Mother's Day in May 1907 but the idea didn't catch on until the following year on May 10, 1908. 6. In 2018, a survey by RetailMeNot.ca suggested that the average Canadian will spend more than $85 on gifts. 7. In 2015, according to Statistics Canada 324.3 million flowers, produced by greenhouses in Canada, were cut for Mother's Day. 8. Canadians spend more money on Mother's Day than Father's Day. 9. Mother's Day is celebrated by 40+ countries around the world. 10. Mother's Day is celebrated at different times during the year depending on the country.
