NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. x--10s. Three chiefs from a First Nation that lost an ancestral leader when he was wrongfully tried and hanged 154 ago today have gathered to pay tribute to the man they say will always be remembered. Chief Joe Alphonse of the Tsilhqot'iin (sill-KOH'-teen) Nation says the remains of Chief Ahan (Ah-HAN') are believed to be buried on the grounds of New Westminster Secondary School. Alphonse says nation has asked the province and the school district to do D-N-A tests if his bones are ever found there but neither side has agreed.
("..by horseback.") (double outcue) (SOURCE: The Canadian Press)

TAG: Five other Indigenous leaders were also arrested and hanged elsewhere in B-C before Ahan's trial in New Westminster, and both the province and the federal government have recently apologized for the wrongful executions of all the men.
