Newsroom Ready: Alberta premier warns coronavirus will lead to layoffs in energy and airline industries

Premier Jason Kenney says he will take an urgent message to the first ministers meeting in Ottawa this week. Speaking to reporters as he departed Wednesday for the meeting, Kenney said Alberta needs the federal government to have its back during a time of economic crisis — similar to how Ottawa helped the auto sector during the global financial crisis in 2008 and 2009. Kenney says he is going to the meeting with several actions he says are needed to help protect the economy from the oil price crash resulting from the coronavirus.
