Newsroom Ready: Liberals, Conservatives at odds over re-opening House of Commons during COVID-19

The federal Liberal government and Opposition Conservatives remained at odds Sunday over plans to re-open the House of Commons during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said it would be "irresponsible" to have members of Parliament return to the chamber as his government laid out a plan for one in-person sitting with a limited number of MPs per week bolstered by virtual sessions. But Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer stood by his party's calls for three in-person sittings per week, saying Parliament is an essential service and that many questions remain about how a virtual session would work.
