Chernobyl Nuclear

PREMIUM --

Archive. The general view of the Chernobyl APS. On July 10, 2000 at 7.02 a.m. the third and the single working power-unit on the Chernobyl APS was switched off in the course of the heavy shower (on the photo, left from sarcophagus and pipe). The heavy shower submerged the premises, where security system diesel-generators were placed. Those systems supplied by the high-power equipment of the anti-damage protection of the power block, especially those systems of emergency cooling of the atomic reactor. As a result of flood, the prompt automatic putting into operation of the diesel-generator, in the case of systems crash, became impossible. Photo by /UPG/ABACA.
