NEB recommends Trans Mountain pipeline expansion construction proceed

The National Energy Board says increased tanker traffic through the Salish Sea will hurt endangered southern resident killer whales and increase greenhouse gas emissions, but it says those issues don't outweigh the considerable benefits of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion. At a news conference in Calgary, the board repeated its endorsement of the expansion. The recommendation now goes to Ottawa where cabinet is awaiting the result of consultations with Indigenous groups.
