Covers by Mini Pop Kids offer relief for parents worried about explicit language

A new generation of pop music fans are getting a taste of modern-day hits through a distinctly ’80s brand — the Mini Pop Kids. The kid-friendly group has stripped the kitschy outfits and heavy makeup that marked early covers of songs by Madonna, Bananarama and Boy George. Mini Pop Kids producer Samantha Kives says they’re more focused on presenting a wholesome image with clean versions of hits by stars including Cardi B, Maroon 5 and Bruno Mars. She says that’s allowed them to court a tech-savvy generation through streaming and online videos while tapping into parents’ nostalgia for the ’80s original.
