Newsroom Ready: Study explores orcas sharing prey with humans

A new peer-reviewed study led by a researcher in British Columbia details nearly three dozen cases of killer whales apparently sharing food with humans. Jared Towers with the research group Bay Cetology says sharing food is a foundational behaviour among killer whales, and he believes the prey sharing with humans is "altruistic."(June 30, 2025).
