Newsroom Ready: Winnipeg's historic Portage and Main intersection reopens to pedestrians after 46 years

The intersection of Portage Ave. and Main St., in the heart of downtown Winnipeg, has been reopened to pedestrian crossing for the first time in 46 years. More than 100 people turned out to celebrate the end of concrete barriers that forced walkers to use an underground tunnel system to get across a road. (June 27, 2025)
