Canadian author Edugyan says ‘Washington Black’ readers will be surprised by Disney adaptation

The Victoria, B.C.-based novelist says those familiar with her Giller Prize-winning historical novel will be surprised by the TV adaptation coming to Disney Plus. The sprawling saga follows a boy born into slavery on a Barbados plantation who seeks freedom in Nova Scotia and through adventures around the world. (July 22, 2025)
