The tug Point Valiant guides the 90-year-old CSS Acadia along the waterfront in Halifax to a shipyard for conservation work on November 17, 2003. A vintage navy vessel that survived world wars and the Halifax Explosion is falling victim to a more mundane threat -- the destructive force of salt water. The steel-hulled CSS Acadia is a central attraction at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax and is the only remaining vessel to have served the Royal Canadian Navy in both world wars. FILE- Canadian Forces soldiers go through the slow process of checking for mines Sunday, Nov.23, 2003 along the same road near Kabul where Sgt. Robert Short and Cpl. Robbie Beerenfenger were killed on Oct. 2 of the same year. When Sgt. Short and Cpl. Beerenfenger were killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2003, the story of how it happened was a lot like the mission itself: new, controversial and difficult for many to understand. Seven years later, it has grown all too familiar.
