NIXON TAPES

Newly appointed Secretary of State Henry Kissinger sits with President Richard Nixon in the Oval Office in Washington D.C. in this Sept. 21, 1973 photo. Buried in 500 hours of tapes released Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002 at the National Archives, Nixon matter-of-factly raised the idea of using a nuclear bomb, in an April 25, 1972, conversation in the Executive Office Building. The notion was quickly shot down by national security adviser Henry Kissinger. (AP Photo)
