Brewer of Los Angeles, who identified himself as a representative of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators, testifies before the House Un-American Activities committee in Washington in this Oct. 28, 1947 file photo. Brewer, a fervent anti-communist who headed the stagehands union and became one of the most powerful labor leaders in Hollywood during the blacklist era, has died. He was 97.
