OBIT OCONNOR

Actor Carroll O'Connor is shown in this July, 2000 photo, teaching a theater class at the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont. O'Connor, who as irascible bigot Archie Bunker on ``All in the Family'' helped make the groundbreaking TV comedy part of the 1970s American dialogue on race and politics, has died. He was 76. His publicist says the actor died from a heart attack Thursday. He collapsed at his Los Angeles-area home and was rushed to the hospital where he died with his wife of nearly 50 yearsby his side.
