This 1911 photo from the Library of Congress shows children wrapped in blankets, at a fresh air class rest hour at Public School No. 51, in New York. Poor ventilation in school buildings across the U.S. will limit the ability of in-person instruction to resume safely. Some districts are warming to the idea of outdoor classrooms. FILE - This is a 1911 file photo of the collapsed remains of the fire escape of the Triangle Shirt Waist Company in New York City. One hundred years ago, horrified onlookers watched as workers leapt to their deaths from the raging fire in the garment factory. The fire killed 146 workers, mainly young immigrant women and girls, and became a touchstone for the organized labor movement, spurred fire-safety laws and shed light on the lives of immigrant workers.
