THE BREMEN WAS CAUGHT BY THE WAR IN NEW YORK HARBOUR.   FOR MANY DAYS NOTHING WAS HEARD OF HER. THEN THE MEMBERS OF THE CREW BEGAN TO ARRIVE BACK IN HAMBURG AND IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE BREMEN HAD ARRIVED IN A NORTH RUSSIAN PORT MURMANSK WAS QUOTED.  THE SHIP WAS PAINTED A NEUTRAL COLOUR WHILST AT SEA AND THE CREW DARE NOT GO BELOW TO SLEEP, FOR FEAR OF BRITISH CRUISERS. HER RADIO WAS MUTE, GERMAN NAVY BEJNG QUITE POWERLESS TO GIVE ASSISTANCE.   THE FEAT OF TAKING THE SHIP THROUGH THE NORTH ATLANTIC MUST BE REGARDED AS ONE OF THE CLEVEREST PIECES OF NAVAL SKILL AND TACTICS OF THE WAR.

THE KING AND QUEEN,  WITH PRINCESS ELIZABETH AND PRINCESS MARGARET, ARE THIS WEEKEND PAYING A VISIT TO DARTMOUTH NAVAL COLLEGE - TRAINING SCHOOL FOR THE BRITISH NAVY WHERE THE KING HIMSELF TRAINED AS A CADET IN HIS YOUNGER DAYS.  THE ROYAL PARTY HAD PREVIOUSLY JOINED THE ROYAL YACHT VICTORIA AND ALBERT AT WEYMOUTH AND TRAVELLED IN HER TO DARTMOUTH. AFTER LANDING AT THE PRETTY LITTLE DEVONSHIRE TOWN THEIR MAJESTIES DROVE TO THE COLLEGE AND TOURED THE COLLEGE BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS, BOTH THE KING AND OUEEN WANTED TREES TO COMMEMORATE THE VISIT AND THEN THE KING TOOK THEIR HANDBAGS FROM THE LITTLE PRINCESSES - AND THEY FOLLOWED THEIR PARENTS' EXAMPLES AND PLANTED TWO MORE "TREES, SO DARTMOUTH WILL HAVE NICE SHADY MEMENTOES TO REMEMBER THE GREAT DAY BY IN THE YEARS TO COME!
