PATRICIA NIXON PANDAS

Patricia Nixon welcomes China's giant pandas on April 20, 1972 at Washington's National Zoo. With her is Ting-Hung, head of the Bureau of Public Service of the City of Peking, who accompanied the animals to Washington. In the airconditioned Panda House is Hsing-Hsing, the 74-pound male. The pandas were gifts from the people of China, in exchange for a pair of Musk Oxen. (CP PHOTO/AP)
