The English neurosurgeon and former Formula One medical chief Sid Watkins, who tended to his friend Ayrton Senna after his fatal crash at Imola in 1994, and is credited with saving the lives of several race drivers, has died Wednesday Sept. 12, 2012, aged 84. Watkins was at the forefront of F1 safety for 26-years, and as a track-side doctor is credited with helping save the lives of several Grand Prix drivers after heavy crashes, including the life of Barrichello.
