Canada King George VI and Queen Elizabeth

At the request of the King, the Royal visit to Sudbury, Ontario, on June 13, 1939, the capital of Canada’s nickel belt, was extended to allow a glimpse of the operations of the Nickel industry to be given to their Majesties, who also found time to pay a visit to the famous Frood mine of the International Nickel Co. Dressed in miner’s helmets and overalls, Britain's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth went nearly half a mile underground to the 2,800-ft level, made a short tour underground and saw at close quarters the operation of mining copper-nickel ores.
