CP LGBTQ REFUGEE EXPERIENCE
LGBTQ+ refugees who fled to Kenya from other African nations say they have been waiting years for the Kenyan government to let them seek refuge in countries like Canada. They say they're facing violence from other locals in refugee camps and cities across Kenya while they wait. In the Kakuma refugee camp, people report being physically attacked at night and fired from jobs with local groups. Some have fled in desperation to the Gorom camp in South Sudan, where things seem even worse. The Canadian Press has prepared a map locating the Kakuma and Groom refugee camps.
