Christmas Day Fire Settlement

FILE - In this Dec. 25, 2011 file photo, firefighters investigate the home of Madonna Badger in Stamford, Conn., where a Christmas Day fire killed Badger's three daughters and both her parents. Court records obtained Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015 by The Associated Press show that Michael Borcina and his contracting company settled a lawsuit by the children's father, Matthew Badger, in Hartford Superior Court by paying him $5 million. Madonna Badger and Borcina were dating at the time and both escaped the fire. Authorities said the fire began after Borcina left a bag of fireplace ashes in a bin in a mudroom in the house.
