ADDITION Spies Revealed

** CLARIFIES INFORMATION ABOUT LUCIANO AND THE OSS ** ** FILE ** In this June 11, 1948 black-and-white file photo, reputed mobster Charles "Lucky" Luciano sips a drink during a news conference in the Excelsior Hotel in Rome. Release of top-secret files Thursday identifying a World War II era spy network nearing 24,000 could help clarify Luciano's role with the U.S. intelligence community. He was released from prison in 1943 after offering assistance to Naval Intelligence, but he's never been identified as a member of the spy network managed by the Office of Strategic Services, an early version of the CIA created in World War II by President Franklin Roosevelt. Famed chef Julia Child, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Arthur Goldberg and Chicago White Sox catcher Moe Berg all worked as OSS agents at the time. Their personnel records as OSS agents will be made available for the first time among 750,000 never-before-seen documents identifying the vast spy network of military and civilian operatives.
