Trudeau and Mi’kmaq chiefs paddle to mark day one of North American Indigenous Games

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mi’kmaq chiefs paddled in a war canoe across Lake Banook in Dartmouth. Joined by his son Hadrien, Trudeau officially kicked off the official start of the 2023 North American Indigenous Games. He also noted canoes and waterways once functioned as “the roads and highways the Indigenous people used for millennia to connect with each other.” (July 17, 2023)
