A Conservative motion to expand a carve-out from carbon pricing to all forms of home heating failed to pass the House of Commons, despite support from the New Democrats. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he is “always reluctant” to vote with the Conservatives, but that his party wanted to vote against the “divisive approach of the Liberals” on this issue. The Bloc Québécois had joined the Liberals in voting against the motion, with Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre saying Prime Minister Justin Trudeau needed saving by “the separatists.” (Nov. 6, 2023)
