High Water in Hurricane Season
In this July 25, 2019 photo, water lines and receding water are seen on the backside of the Mississippi River levee, in the flooded batture of Algiers Point in New Orleans. The river that drains much of the flood-soaked United States is running far higher than normal this hurricane season, menacing New Orleans in multiple ways.
One continuing concern is the massive volume of water that for months has been pushing against levees protecting a city that’s mostly below sea level. (AP Photo/Gerald Herbert)
