FILE - Citation, ridden by Eddie Arcado, races home an easy winner in the $100,000 added Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park race track in Elmont, N.Y. on June 12, 1948. Better Self, on rail, ridden by Warren Mehrtens, was second, six lengths away. Escadru, left, was third. Citation won the race and the Triple Crown. The Belmont Stakes is the final Triple Crown race before new federal regulations going into effect for horse racing across the United States. (AP Photo/File)
